Moving On After Trauma; A Guide for Survivors, Family and Friends: Reviews
Readers Reviews
Reader review by: Paul Ackerley
"Before you read on I would like to point out that without this book (and sessions with the good Doctor) you wouldn't actually be reading this now! (Seeing as I'm helping develop the sites for him). Following a very unpleasant RTA I completely withdrew into myself. For a good two years my family put up with my moods and other issues and I completely neglected my own websites and life while trying (and failing) to hide from the memories. My understanding is that your mind can only take so many setbacks and traumas before something snaps, this was my breaking point. What I found, reading the book, is just how many of the diverse characters I could relate to. I mean really relate to! Anyway, applying the tricks and techniques in the guide genuinely can help. Don't get me wrong, I'm not all happy and wonderful again, but I am on the mend and able to get on with my life."

"Following my diagnosis of PTSD over two years ago, I actually felt some small relief because I had expected it to be: ´Early onset of senile-dementia´, ´Alzheimers´, or at the very least ´The woman has gone mad´. My mind had shattered into a thousand small pieces and being unable to concentrate, relax or think straight, made life unbearable at times.
I was a Police Child Protection Officer with a constant heavy workload, and a high conviction rate for Paedophiles. I worked tirelessly, always seeking new ways to empower witnesses to give evidence against their abusers. My head became overloaded with the horrors of child abuse after working on ´Operation ORE´: the International Investigation into images of child-abuse being distributed via the internet, for purchase by Paedophiles.
There is no quick-fix for PTSD. It destroyed the person I was, affecting not only me but also my family and friends. My job was the first thing to go and I felt guilty and ashamed for not being able to cope. My Psychologist suggested I read Dr Scott's self-help book, ´Moving on After Trauma´.
The understanding of concentration problems PTSD sufferers have, leaps out of page one alone of the Introduction. It is purposefully written, easy to read and easy to digest. The invaluable information and advice, written throughout with such warmth and compassion for its reader, is simply second to none. ´Moving on After Trauma´ is the perfect self-help book if you genuinely want to move forward with your life, or are in a position to try and help another. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone traumatised by any event. If you feel you are completely alone, then read this book - it will prove to you that you are not alone - and Dr Scott with his expertise can guide you out of your torment.
I begin a three year degree course in the autumn and am looking forward to a whole new career. This would not have been possible without the help and support of my Psychologist, Dr Scott's book, and my loyal dog Jess."

One trauma victim said that she found reading this book was like being given a big hug
. Try it and see for yourself, When did you last get this from a self-help book?

"Michael Scott has penned a thoughtful, accessible and easily readable book for trauma survivors. It will act as an excellent guide for survivors, their families and can be used by the individual instead of therapy, as they await therapy or as a workbook to accompany their therapy. It is grounded in the Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT) approach and flows easily from helping people understand their experiences and problems after trauma, to managing then treating their problems and symptoms. In giving individuals practical solutions and a range of options it allows control to be regained. Moving on after Trauma offers options for the reader to do exactly that; move on following traumatic experience."

"Michael Scott has produced an excellent book that should be of immense value to sufferers of PTSD and their relatives. I particularly like its clear link with theory and evidence and it is replete with useful case examples. Scott’s extensive clinical experience in dealing with these problems is evident in his thorough and sensitive handling of the topic. Packed full of strategies and tips for dealing effectively with trauma symptoms and associated problems this book should be at the top of sufferers self-help list."
